Description

BSA
Gold Star featuring a Dick Mann flat track frame. Engine is a 1954 by serial number. Since the frame was intended as an off-road racer there is no frame serial number and hence never titled. The engine has been completely rebuilt as well as the gearbox. The carburetor is an AMAL 1 ½ inch GP with remote float bowl. The head has a large throat input port. Fork is that of a BSA Gold Star. Engine sprocket is 16 tooth and clutch a conventual 43 tooth. The gearbox output drive sprocket 17 tooth and the rear wheel sprocket 46 tooth. The rear drive chain is ¼ inch wide, #520 chain for weight reduction. The machine has a Barn’s type quick change rear sprocket, spinoff hub. The clutch is Triumph with an extra friction plate.
The raw frame weight is 20 lbs. and constructed of chrome-moly tubing. The tachometer is a Smiths chronometric which is functional. The magneto is a Lucas KNR1 racing magneto. The tire size is 4 x 19 inches, both front and rear.
The engine and gearbox mounting brackets are made of 7075 aluminum, about half the weight of factory steel brackets.
Comes with a nicely chromed kick starter lever, not pictured. Also a roller starter which is driven by a car starter motor and battery
.
The machine has a ‘pit-brake’ which can be removed by unscrewing two bolts and removing two cotter pins. This assembly includes the integral brake pedal. The caliper is mechanical and works against the rear sprocket. This brake is not intended for legal road use but sure is handy for testing the bike. When showing the machine, the whole assembly can and easily removed to render the bike correct for period racing of the 50’s and early 60’s.
Comes with a 4-inch reverse cone megaphone which makes its self heard with a ferocious angry growl. Also, included with is a properly fitting 1 ¾ dia. inch chrome straight pipe with a much mellower tone.
